The Muscle Integrity Myopathy (MIM) DNA test (formerly known as PSSM2) identifies six genetic variants associated with inherited muscle disorders affecting muscle integrity and performance.

The panel evaluates the following genetic variants:

Muscle Integrity Myopathy (MIM), previously referred to as PSSM2, is a group of inherited muscle disorders affecting the structure and function of skeletal muscle.

Affected horses may show muscle stiffness, poor performance, exercise intolerance, reluctance to move, recurrent muscle soreness or difficulty maintaining muscle condition. Clinical signs and severity vary considerably between individuals.

Although there is currently no cure for MIM, early identification allows veterinarians to implement appropriate nutritional management, exercise programmes and monitoring strategies that may improve quality of life and athletic performance.

MIM-associated variants have been identified in several breeds, including Quarter Horses, Warmbloods, Thoroughbreds and many other sport horse populations.
