      L'encefalite equina orientale (EEE), nota anche come triple E, è una malattia virale trasmessa agli esseri umani e ai cavalli dalla puntura di una zanzara infetta. Gli insetti acquisiscono il virus pungendo un uccello infetto.

      Il virus EEE colpisce il sistema nervoso e gli animali infetti possono sviluppare:

      • Febbre
      • Depressione
      • Cambiamenti comportamentali
      • Visione compromessa
      • Contrazioni muscolari
      • Movimenti circolari
      • Pressione della testa
      • Difficoltà a deglutire
      • Paralisi
      • Convulsioni

      I cavalli infettati da EEE spesso non sopravvivono.

      TrasmissioneTrasmissione

      Il virus viene trasmesso a cavalli e esseri umani attraverso la puntura di zanzare infette.

      Le zanzare acquisiscono il virus da uccelli infetti.

      La trasmissione avviene principalmente durante i mesi estivi umidi.

      • La vaccinazione contro l'encefalite equina orientale è disponibile per i cavalli.
      • Controlla le popolazioni di zanzare dove possibile.
      • Riduci l'esposizione dei cavalli alle zanzare per diminuire il rischio di infezione.
