      El RT-qPCRtest detecta elgenoma (ARN) del virus de la encefalitis equina del este (EEE).

      La encefalitis equina del este (EEE), también conocida como triple E, es una enfermedad viral transmitida a humanos y caballos por la picadura de un mosquito infectado. Los insectos adquieren el virus al picar a un ave infectada.

      El virus EEE afecta el sistema nervioso y los animales infectados pueden desarrollar:

      • Fiebre
      • Depresión
      • Cambios de comportamiento
      • Visión afectada
      • Contracciones musculares
      • Giros en círculos
      • Presión de la cabeza
      • Dificultad para tragar
      • Parálisis
      • Convulsiones

      Los caballos infectados con EEE a menudo no sobreviven.

      TransmisiónTransmisión

      El virus se transmite a caballos y humanos a través de la picadura de mosquitos infectados.

      Los mosquitos adquieren el virus de aves infectadas.

      La transmisión ocurre principalmente durante los meses húmedos de verano.

      • La vacunación contra la encefalitis equina del este está disponible para caballos.
      • Controle las poblaciones de mosquitos cuando sea posible.
      • Reduzca la exposición de los caballos a los mosquitos para disminuir el riesgo de infección.
