    Offer Description

    This Research Initiation Fellowship (RIF/BIC) is funded by the CIICOH – Center for Integrative Intelligence for Co-Creation in One Health – Exploratory Phase and Foundation of Animal Digital Twin Sentinels project (CENTRO2030-FEDER-02231000 — Project No. 21379). The fellow will receive introductory research training in molecular biology applied to animal health, contributing to innovative One Health research through laboratory techniques and biological data analysis.

    Main Responsibilities

    • DNA and RNA extraction from animal samples.
    • Nucleic acid quantification and quality control.
    • Gene expression analysis using qPCR / RT-qPCR.
    • Support molecular biomarker studies related to animal respiratory health.
    • Assist in biological data analysis.
    • Collaborate with multidisciplinary research teams.

    Requirements

    Education

    • Enrolment in a Bachelor's degree in Biotechnology.

    Skills

    • Basic molecular biology laboratory practice.

    Equigerminal S.A. is recruiting an MSc or PhD researcher to join the CIICOH – Center for Integrative Intelligence for Co-Creation in One Health project.

    The successful candidate will contribute to cutting-edge R&D activities integrating molecular, clinical and environmental data to develop predictive models for animal health. Research focuses on companion animals and horses, combining molecular biology, bioinformatics and artificial intelligence within a One Health framework.

    Main Responsibilities

    • Extract and quantify total RNA, microRNA, viral RNA and genomic DNA.
    • Perform gene expression analysis using RT-qPCR.
    • Conduct molecular biomarker analysis related to respiratory health.
    • Perform SNP genotyping and next-generation sequencing (preferably Oxford Nanopore).
    • Integrate molecular, clinical and environmental datasets.
    • Develop and support machine learning models for predictive analysis.
    • Collaborate with multidisciplinary researchers across biology, veterinary science and data science.

    Requirements

    Education

    • MSc or PhD in Bioinformatics, Computational Biology, Data Science, Biomedical Engineering or a related field.

    Required Skills

    • Experience with molecular biology techniques.
    • Experience analysing molecular, clinical and environmental datasets.
    • Knowledge of bioinformatics workflows and machine learning.
    • Excellent written and spoken Portuguese and English.
    • Strong communication and teamwork skills.

    Equigerminal S.A. is recruiting an MSc or PhD researcher to strengthen the development of the AImals technology platform. The successful candidate will contribute to a secure, scalable and interoperable platform supporting Digital Animal Twin Sentinels by integrating molecular, clinical and environmental information into predictive One Health models.

    Main Responsibilities

    • Develop and expand the platform’s data infrastructure for secure, scalable, interoperable storage and processing of heterogeneous data
    • Build data pipelines to integrate clinical, molecular, genetic, laboratory, social, and environmental datasets
    • Design and implement backend services and APIs for secure communication between databases and user interfaces
    • Develop interactive web dashboards, including longitudinal dashboards, for real-time and temporal health data visualization
    • Integrate multimedia elements (interactive charts, animations, images, videos) into web applications to enhance data interpretation
    • Collaborate on the development of taxonomies and ontologies for data standardization and semantic interoperability
    • Implement data privacy, authentication, and authorization protocols in compliance with GDPR
    • Work closely with a multidisciplinary team to translate research and technical requirements into effective solutions
    • Support the creation of Digital Animal Twin Sentinels by integrating multi-source data into predictive digital models

    Requirements

    Education

    • MSc or PhD in Computer Engineering, Computer Science, Web Development or related fields.

    Skills

    • Proven experience in full-stack web development, including backend and frontend design for scientific or data-intensive platforms
    • Strong skills in implementing RESTful APIs for secure database-UI connections
    • Experience building interactive dashboards, including longitudinal dashboards
    • Ability to integrate multimedia elements into web applications
    • Knowledge of data standardization and interoperability practices (taxonomies, ontologies, standards like FHIR, JSON)
    • Understanding of data privacy, GDPR compliance, and implementation of authentication and authorization protocols
    • Proficiency in backend technologies, preferably Python (FastAPI or Flask), and frontend frameworks aligned with the platform stack (e.g., React)
    • Experience with relational SQL databases hosted in the cloud
    • Experience with data pipeline tools (e.g., Apache Airflow) and version control systems (Git)
    • Fluency in Portuguese and English (both spoken and written)
    • Strong communication skills and ability to work collaboratively in a multidisciplinary team
