      The Equine Piroplasmosis Bundle combines cELISA and qPCR testing for comprehensive detection of Babesia caballi and Theileria equi.

      The bundle includes:

      • One qPCR test for the detection of the genome of Babesia caballi and Theileria equi.

      The cELISA assays comply with ISO/IEC 17025 standards and are suitable for official horse movement, import and export requirements.

      What is Equine Piroplasmosis?

      Equine Piroplasmosis (EP) is a tick-borne disease caused by Babesia caballi and Theileria equi.

      Infected horses may remain carriers for prolonged periods.

      The disease occurs in southern Europe, Asia, Africa and parts of the Americas.

      This bundle combines serological (cELISA) and molecular (qPCR) testing to improve diagnostic accuracy.

      It is particularly useful for:

      • Prevent tick exposure through appropriate tick-control measures.
      • Screen horses before import, export or movement.
      • Test horses entering breeding facilities or endemic areas.
      • Follow local biosecurity and movement regulations where Equine Piroplasmosis is monitored.

      Why does this bundle include both cELISA and qPCR?

      The two techniques complement each other. The cELISA tests detect antibodies, indicating previous exposure to Babesia caballi and Theileria equi, while the qPCR test detects the DNA of the pathogens, allowing identification of active infection, including in the early stages.
